Originally a summer camp operated by the Methodist Church in the 1880’s, Lake Bluff today is a small, peaceful community reminiscent of an old-time New England village. Situated high above Lake Michigan on steep bluffs interspersed with deep ravines, the town is a haven for those in search of close-knit community spirit. A charming gazebo on the village green serves as a focal point for the small central business district and a setting for many well-organized community activities.

Transportation
RTA Metra express time to the Loop is just over 50 minutes from the Lake Bluff station. Bus and limousine services direct to O’Hare Airport are also available. Skokie Highway (U.S. 41) and Sheridan Road run through the village. The Tri-State Tollway (I-94) is just to the west of the village.

Schools
Lake Bluff is home to acclaimed elementary schools, providing a special curriculum for both gifted students and those with learning disabilities. A junior high and several fine private schools are also available locally. High school students attend Lake Forest High School nearby.

Recreation
Generous land space devoted to parks, beaches and playgrounds is maintained by the Lake Bluff Park District. A community recreation complex, local tennis and golf courses provide year-round activities for residents of all ages. Ravinia Park in the heart of the village serves as a scenic wildlife and bird sanctuary.

Shopping
Charming “downtown” Lake Bluff features a pharmacy, bank, post office, video store, and several antique shops. Residents are within a short drive of several major malls, including Lake Forest’s Market Square with 30 stores, Old Orchard in Skokie, and Gurnee Mills, a regional outlet mall featuring over 200 stores.

Hospitals
Lake Forest Hospital, a 267-bed facility, including an 88-bed facility at Westmoreland Nursing Home, employs over 350 medical professionals. The emergency room is a level II trauma center. Specialties include cancer care, the Center for Breast Health, Pain Treatment Center, Sleep Disorders Lab, a level II nursery, the Dearhaven Child Care and Learning Center, and a state-of-the-art health and fitness center. Condell Memorial Hospital and Highland Park Hospital are among alternatives to area residents.

Places of Worship
The village is home to a Methodist congregation as well as the Union Church of Lake Bluff (non-denominational). A variety of other denominations are represented in nearby communities.
